Kensington This area has long had Royal connections in fact since the late 17th century when the Royal Court moved periodically to Kensington House for clean and fresh air. The house subsequently became Kensington Palace and the area has been fashionable ever since, with a number of courtier’s houses been built originally around Kensington Square and then other areas of the village. Today Kensington offers a range of exclusive homes, shops and amenities and off the High Street retains a village like atmosphere. The area largely known as South Kensington developed its own identity in the years after Great Exhibition of 1851, with the development of world class museums and large stucco fronted family houses and terraces that we see around us. Today the area is cosmopolitan and it is one of the preferred areas for international residents in London and has international facilities such as The Lycee and many Embassies. South Kensington offers are wide range of amenities and world class shops and restaurants making it a global nomad’s paradise from Royal Thai cuisine to gastro pubs and Gucci to organic food markets it really is a haven in one of the world’s foremost cities.
